Bend community comes together for Cascade Cycling Classic

By Regence | August 11, 2017

The Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF) is an Oregon nonprofit that is dedicated to helping athletes achieve their athletic, academic, and personal goals through competitive sports. Each year, the community of Bend comes together to support MBSEF’s amazing work with athletes through the Cascade Cycling Classic, the longest running stage race in the country. It's an exciting display of sportsmanship and excellence, of local and world-class athletes pushing themselves to fulfill their potential and inspire a healthier community, and we’re honored to play a part in that.

During the fast-paced Downtown Twilight Criterium, thousands of spectators packed into Downtown Bend to watch men and women cyclists compete for top honors. There is nothing like seeing people of all ages, from young children to grandparents, shouting for their favorite riders and making some noise by ringing their cowbells, a tradition at the Classic.

The 450 athletes racing exemplified athletic performance at its finest, inspiring each us to define our own race and to ride with passion and determination to improve our physical and mental health. The relationship is mutual—the riders, from all over the world, are vocal about their love for the beauty and hospitality Bend provides.

The Classic is a great way for people of all ages to be active and enjoy Bend. For the second year, the Classic has hosted the Bend Classic Mile, a one mile foot race during the Criterium for adults and kids. Kids ages 2-13 had a blast competing in the Cascade Cycling Kids Race.

This year, we we’re proud to return as presenting sponsor of the Cascade Cycling Classic and contribute to equalizing the women’s prize purse along with other supporters in the community. The race gives back to the Central Oregon community in a big way and promotes athletic achievement and healthy activity, something that’s very important to us.

Thanks to the participants, spectators, MBSEF and the Bend community for making this the best race yet.
