Dr. Csaba Mera named Regence Deputy Chief Medical Officer & appointed to Oregon Patient Safety Commission
Regence is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Csaba Mera to the position of deputy chief medical officer. At the same time Dr. Mera has been appointed by the State of Oregon to the Oregon Patient Safety Commission.

Sharon Richardson has joined Regence as Director of Product Management. In this role, she will be responsible for the oversight and management of the company’s commercial product portfolio, with a focus on sales and marketing strategy and the development of products for groups of 51 employees or more.

According to unaudited figures filed March 1 with the Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner, Regence BlueShield’s 483,271 fully insured members had medical claims totaling $1.78 billion in 2012, or $3,135 per member. Regence paid 82.7 cents of every premium dollar to pay those claims.

Cases of the flu are increasing across the country, and Regence BlueShield in Washington is joining with the Washington State Department of Health to encourage people to get a flu shot, which is covered under Regence health plans, and to take other simple measures to protect themselves from the flu.

Regence employees are giving back to the communities where they live and work through the company’s annual employee giving campaign. In the recently completed 2012 campaign, employees from Regence BlueShield in Washington and its affiliated companies in Idaho, Oregon and Utah pledged charitable gifts of more than $1.2 million to nearly 1,550 nonprofits.
