Giving back to the community is one of the most rewarding ways to celebrate the holiday season. While we all have busy schedules, made busier with the arrival of relatives and loved ones, choosing to volunteer and taking the time to personally connect with others in your community makes a bigger impact than you may think.

This holiday season, we encourage your business to give back to the communities you serve. Here are three ways you can do this.

  1. Partner with charitable events. Keep the holiday spirit alive in your business by engaging your employees in a charitable cause like a local toy drive. To do so, provide gift donation boxes throughout your office and send friendly reminders to your employees each week to participate.  For example, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon partners with the KGW Great Toy Drive each year to collect toys for children in Oregon during the holidays.

  2. Help wrap gifts for a local charity or organization. Find out which local charities and organization are accepting gifts this holiday season, and offer to organize a gift wrapping event. Bring holiday music, snacks and refreshments, and invite colleagues, friends and family to join in on the fun.

  3. Organize group volunteer days. As the old adage goes, “actions speak louder than words.” This holiday season, conduct a company-wide survey to decide which organizations your employees are most passionate about, and then organize group volunteer days. You and your employees can help spread holiday cheer simply by lending a helping hand.

There are many ways your business can support the community this holiday season. Whether through volunteer work or donations, you can make a difference!
