Business and community leaders from across Utah came together for the Salt Lake Chamber’s 135th Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon on Oct. 7, 2022. The event was full of celebration and reflection, acknowledging our state’s prosperous future as well as the many challenges brought on by the pandemic.

“Throughout our 135-year history, we have been coming together to find common ground,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance. “The Chamber, and the thousands of organizations we represent, are dedicated to the work of advancing business interests because we know the importance of keeping Utahns employed, families supported, our economy thriving, and our community prosperous.”

Helping Utahns access care during difficult times

Regence has the privilege of being the first health plan in Utah since our founding in 1944. Today we proudly serve almost 700,000 Utahns across our state, all of whom experienced the challenges brought on by COVID-19. As a health plan providing critical care access for employers, members and their families, Regence quickly evolved through the pandemic with strength, courage and flexibility for all those we serve. This includes enabling access to virtual doctor visits, which have increased dramatically over the last few years, and adding nearly 2,000 behavioral health care providers to our Utah network since 2021.

Jim Swayze, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah president, accepted the Chamber’s 2022 Fortitude Award on behalf of the health plan. “As an organization, we genuinely have our employees and our leaders engage on boards and do meaningful work to give back into the communities,” said Swayze. “I look at what our employees did through the pandemic, and it was awe-inspiring … our employees really put our members first, asking ‘how do we rally around their needs?’”
