Celebrating Pride during unprecedented times

This year pride events have largely been canceled, postponed or celebrated virtually as our community continues to work through the COVID-19 pandemic. Pride at Regence is certainly different from last year, when a record number of our employees and their loved ones celebrated with the Regence theme “Living Fearless Is Being You” – recognizing the courage it takes to be your authentic self and to stand up for others from all walks of life.

In 2020 the need to celebrate diversity, inclusion and respect for one another is more important than ever. Pride as we know it today began 51 years ago as an uprising against police who harassed and discriminated against the LGBTQ+ community. Known as the Stonewall Riots, this critical milestone in our nation’s history was ignited and led by Black transgender women, drag queens and other LGBTQ+ people of color. Pride this year must honor this legacy, especially as protests to end systemic racism continue locally, nationally and around the world.

Our greatest strength as a company is our employees, and this Pride Month we celebrate their commitment to dismantling racism and brutality in all its forms. In the video below, several members of Regence’s PRIDE ERG (Professionals Respecting Individuality, Diversity & Inclusion employee resource group) share what 2020 Pride means to them.
