Combatting abuse in drug testing

Health care fraud, waste and abuse increase costs for everyone. Protecting our members from these practices is paramount to ensuring they get the care they truly need.

Thanks to the diligence of the Regence Fraud and Abuse team, we uncovered millions of dollars in unnecessary urine drug testing. We immediately began an investigation into the abuse, and outlined policies and pricing standards for these tests.

In 2017, we presented our findings and solutions in Washington, D.C., to the House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Committee on Oversight and Governance.

The result of our efforts? Our policies have prevented the payment of more than $40 million in unnecessary testing.
