Nurses week 2022

Nurses play a crucial role in the care and support of patients across a wide range of needs, whether a common procedure or complex condition. It’s hard to overstate how important nurses are to ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time. This has been especially true throughout the historic COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to our many provider partners, Regence also has an incredible team of nurses on staff to help members in their unique health care journeys. It may not be obvious what nurses do outside of a clinic or hospital, but they are a critical part of our work at Regence. Our team of nurses review cases needing prior authorization, connect with members to make sure they know about coverage and benefits, and also work with employers to navigate the complex health care system.

For example, on the pediatric case management team, nurses call families when a child is in the hospital, has chronic or life-altering conditions, or is adjusting to a new diagnosis. The Regence nurse will provide families with resources and support, coordinate their care team, and answer questions they may not even know to ask.

During this year's National Nurses Week (May 6 to 12), we spoke with several Regence nurses about their work at the health plan and why they’re passionate about helping members get the best care possible.

"When I joined Regence, I was looking for an opportunity to support people in a setting that focuses on education, advocating for their needs and taking the time to listen to their overall health care experience. Regence is a supportive place to learn new skills with a true focus on wanting to make a difference.”

“I was looking for something out of the hospital for better life balance and that still allowed me to work with patients. I love my team and the people I get to work with are what I like best. There is great teamwork and support for each other here.”

“My friend referred me to Regence when I was looking for a new career change in nursing. I honestly have never worked for a company as great as Regence. I am so impressed by how they take care of their employees, and we are always up to date on what is going on within the company. I wish I would have found Regence earlier on in my nursing career!”

We're here to help

It’s important we celebrate and thank our nurses during this special week and year-round for being on the front lines with our members every day. Regence members who would like to learn more about care management resources and support can read more online or call us at the number on back of their ID card. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month so members are encouraged to explore their health plan’s behavioral and mental health services by signing in to their online account.
