Regence joined an elite group of sponsors at this year’s Answer2Cancer (A2C) event on Saturday, April 7th, a patient education summit that was planned by cancer patients for cancer patients and their care partners. With over 270 in attendance, the event featured opportunities for people to share research, ideas and how they’ve overcome challenges.
This daylong biennial event aligns with Regence’s patient outreach mission to provide comprehensive coverage and access to high-quality palliative care for all of our members.
Keynote speaker Bryce Olson, a Stage IV prostate cancer patient and the Global Marketing Director of Health and Life Sciences at Intel Corporation explained why his t-shirt says, “Sequence me!” As a patient at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), he shared his story of empowerment as the one of the first patients in the world to engage in full-genome sequencing to search for the right weapons to fight his cancer.
Presenters included Miklos Simon, MD, from Compass Oncology, who spoke about cancer as a global issue and provided updates in personalized medicine.

Leslie Foren, Regence Personalized Care Support’s Provider and Consumer Outreach Lead, presented “Working with Your Health Insurer,” to empower patients and their care partners to team with their insurance company to maximize their benefits.
“We’re honored to have been invited back to reach out to the local cancer patient and caregiver community, which depends on palliative care benefits like the ones Regence provides,” Leslie said. “This is a huge opportunity to educate consumers about how to get benefits they may not know they already have, especially if they are Regence members.”
