SEATTLE –  On July 25, 2019, Regence BlueShield sent a welcome packet to 684 new Uniform Medical Plan (UMP) subscribers with their Social Security numbers (SSN) visible above the name and address block.

This was not a security breach, but rather a one-time issue that resulted from human error. When we learned of the mistake on July 26, 2019, we stopped mailing additional packets and changed processes moving forward. We have no evidence to suggest personal information has been misused.

Regence is the third-party administrator for UMP, the Health Care Authority’s self-insured medical plan offered to members of the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) Program. UMP is the only plan affected by this error. Regence is notifying the affected UMP members directly and offering one year of complimentary theft protection and potential identity-theft resolution.

If you are a UMP member and have any questions, please call 1 (888) 849-3681.
