Salt Lake City, Utah – Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah is pleased to announce that Mark D. Hiatt, MD, MBA, MS has joined Regence as Executive Medical Director. In this role, Dr. Hiatt will work with health care providers to enhance the quality and affordability of care for Regence members in Utah.
Dr. Hiatt has most recently served as chief medical officer of HealthHelp, a specialty benefits management company headquartered in Houston, Texas. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the utilization of services related radiology, radiation oncology cardiology, emergency medicine and pain management for millions of patients in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Previously, he served as an attending radiologist, clinical department leader and board member for Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals & Clinics, a large regional health system based in Tyler, Texas. Dr. Hiatt has also served as a clinical instructor in cardiovascular imaging at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Hiatt completed a fellowship in cardiovascular imaging at Stanford University after a residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Virginia and medical school at Wake Forest University. He also earned an MBA from Wake Forest and a master’s in health evaluation sciences, with an emphasis in medical informatics, from the University of Virginia. He completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, where he studied economics and Italian literature. Dr. Hiatt has published over 50 scientific articles and chapters, has presented at over 100 healthcare conferences and is active in many professional organizations.
