Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah is escalating its efforts to enhance women’s leadership within its company and in the community by accepting the ElevateHER™ Challenge. It joined more than 60 businesses and organizations that recently took the corporate challenge sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Institute.
Started in 2015 by WLI, the ElevateHER Challenge is a way to proactively engage organizations and businesses to focus on one or more of six key areas: women in senior leadership, adding women to boards, retention rates of women, monitoring the gender pay gap, mentorship programs and encouraging women to run for political office. “At Regence, we proactively integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into all aspects of our work,” said Jim Swayze, president of Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah. "Gender equality is core to our values, all of which we incorporate into mentorship for women and developing leadership opportunities for them within our organization. To advance our company-wide initiative, we are enthusiastically embracing the ElevateHER challenge!"
“We are excited to work with Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah in their commitment to elevate women,” said Patricia Jones, CEO of Women’s Leadership Institute. “The ElevateHER Challenge is research-based, non-prescriptive and adaptable among different company cultures. Therefore, it is an ideal resource for a variety of business sizes and industries. We’ve also seen how implementing this challenge can help to attract and retain talent.”
Regence strives to foster an ethical company culture where its values guide strategic decision-making and day-to-day interactions with employees, clients, members and others. As a result of this intentional focus, its parent organization was among the World's Most Ethical Companies in 2022, for the fifth year in a row. Company leaders also leverage professional guidance from its local community board, which currently includes three well-known female leaders in Utah.
Ensuring an ethical culture at Regence offers growth and leadership opportunities for women and enhances its ability to make the health care experience simpler, better and more affordable for people and their families.
