Regence BlueShield of Idaho (Regence) and SELECT Medical Network of Idaho (SELECT) today announced they have taken the next step in expanding their collaboration to advance the goals of better health for patients, improved care experience, and lowered costs, through an aligned Total Cost of Care (TCC) incentive model.
This expanded partnership builds on an intensive outpatient care program that SELECT and Regence previously implemented. In that program, physicians and nurses work closely with Regence patients to create more effective, coordinated treatment plans.
The new TCC program empowers the physicians with medical cost data and increases accountability for quality outcomes. TCC includes a shared savings incentive payment arrangement tied to achieving specific quality metrics.
This program is unique to SELECT and is the first TCC program in the state of Idaho.
“This collaboration is an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to the evolution of health care,” said Geoffrey N. Swanson, M.D., president of SELECT. “Working with a great partner like Regence allows both organizations to continue our active roles in this transformation and to better serve our patients.”
“Working together, Regence and SELECT can transform the healthcare system through innovative collaborative care programs such as this new model, and future initiatives as we continue our joint efforts,” said Richard Rainey, M.D., executive medical director for Regence BlueShield of Idaho. “We look forward to continuing our unique relationship for the benefit of our mutual members and patients.”
SELECT is a network of healthcare practitioners in the southern Idaho region bringing together independent providers and facility partners with St. Luke’s Health System “St. Luke’s Health System is a leader in creating innovative programs to improve care to their patients while lowering health care costs for the community,” said Scott Kreiling, president of Regence BlueShield of Idaho. “We have been proud to collaborate with SELECT and St. Luke’s on this program, and look forward to furthering the goals of better health, better care, and lower cost in Idaho through this new agreement.”
The agreement with SELECT is the latest development in Regence’s comprehensive Accountable Healthcare strategy within the Regence family of companies in Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Idaho to help foster collaborative physician-patient relationships that improve quality of care. Since 2007, Regence has worked with providers, employers, and individual members throughout its four-state region to implement 35 collaborative care arrangements in the past year, with a goal of expanding the program further throughout the year.
Regence is currently developing additional collaborative arrangements with doctors and hospitals throughout the Northwest region.
