Lewiston team takes first place, donates winnings to Northwest Children's Home

LEWISTON, Idaho – It was all for the kids – the 510 hours of exercise that eight Regence BlueShield of Idaho employees logged in the company’s Charity Challenge to win the top prize of $1000 for Northwest Children’s Home.

In its annual four-week Charity Challenge, employees at Regence affiliated companies in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington exercised 2,559,950 minutes for charity. That breaks down to 42,666 hours, 1,778 days, or 254 weeks – nearly five years of continuous exercise.

The winning team, Sole Sisters, did gym workouts and Zumba classes, dog walked and moved furniture as part of their collective 30,579 minutes. Team members were Teresa Corey of Lewiston; Tiffany Faul of Clarkston; Brenda Knowlden of Riverton, UT; Debra Puckett of Lewiston; Angie Puhl of Clarkston; Lorree Rodgers of Lewiston; Tami Rowden of Lewiston; and Jennifer Rupe of Lewiston.

“As we reflect on our win, we feel like we did something really good for the community and our health,” said Teresa Corey, Sole Sisters’ team captain. “Northwest Children’s Home is such a great organization that does wonderful work with children in need. Trying to win the donation for them really kept us motivated to exercise and keep track of our time.”

Northwest Children's Home is a Lewiston nonprofit and Regence community partner organization that serves children ages six to 17 who have experienced childhood trauma, such as exposure to drugs and alcohol, abuse, abandonment or violence in their home.

The Charity Challenge is one of many workplace wellness programs offered at Regence to help employees achieve their health and wellness goals. Two hundred forty employee teams company-wide participated in the challenge.
