Regence BlueCross BlueShield seeking nominations for its annual Latino Hero Award Program
PORTLAND, Ore. – Regence BlueCross BlueShield is seeking nominations for its fourth annual Regence Latino Hero Award Program. The award honors individuals of Latino descent who have given back to the community and have impressive professional or educational accomplishments.
The Hero Award Program is open to individuals in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Winners will receive $2,000 to donate to the nonprofit of their choice, and they will be featured in a Regence ad campaign. The nomination deadline is July 15th, 2010.
“The award is part of Regence’s ongoing commitment to the Latino community,” said Francisco Garbayo, who leads Regence’s Latino outreach program. “We are proud to celebrate the Latino heroes in our communities and honor them for their important contributions.”
In addition to the Latino Hero Award, Regence has also implemented a Latino Consejero (concierge) program, produced Spanish language health education radio and TV spots, and is designing a health insurance product geared toward the Latino market.
Last year’s Regence Latino Hero Award winners were Karla Arroyo, executive director of a domestic violence shelter in South Jordan, Utah; Lily Baldwin-Garduño, a clinical psychologist in Spokane, Washington; Maria Berain, a mentor for college students in Boise, Idaho; Jaime Mendez, a newscaster in Seattle, Washington; and Sabino Sardineta, executive director of Centro Cultural in Cornelius, Oregon.
