Regence introduces provider performance ratings to help you choose providers with confidence
Finding the right health care provider just got easier. We recently launched a new feature that displays provider performance ratings directly in our provider search tool, making it simple to identify high-performing, in-network providers at a glance. While ratings don’t currently exist for all providers, they do apply to most primary care physicians who practice family medicine, pediatricians and 17 other specialists.
The ratings are based on an independent analysis of quality, appropriateness of care and cost-efficiency.
Evidence-based medicine: This contributes 50% of the rating. It measures how well providers follow evidence-based best practices, prevent complications and treat chronic conditions. It also evaluates whether providers make care decisions that align with established medical guidelines.
Cost efficiency: This contributes 50% of the rating. It identifies providers who achieve excellent results without unnecessary tests or procedures, based on national data as well as Regence health care data.
When you search for a provider when you’re signed in to the Regence website or app, you’ll find a provider’s performance rating (if they’re rated) just below their name. If they are not rated, it will state that. The highest rating is three and means they are among the highest-performing providers. A two is a mid-level rating and demonstrates they have strong performance. One is the baseline rating and means they meet performance standards. Those who are not rated may be new to the network and not have enough data for a rating, or they practice a specialty that is not currently rated.
While the provider search default sorts by provider ratings, you can still customize your search at any time by filtering your results by distance, gender, language, accepting new patients and more.
