Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah has chosen Dr. Donna Milavetz to serve as its new executive medical director. In this role, she will collaborate with local health care providers and employers to enhance the quality of care and innovative offerings for Regence members statewide. Milavetz will also lead initiatives aimed at decreasing health care expenses and oversee medical cost stewardship activities for the health plan.

“Given her deep knowledge and expertise in health care delivery and public health administration, Dr. Milavetz is an ideal advocate for Regence members and collaborative partner for our network providers,” said Dr. Drew Oliveira, senior executive medical director at Regence. “She is passionate about value-based health care, quality improvement, and preventive medicine, all of which aligns with our mission to make health care more efficient, accessible and affordable.”

Prior to joining Regence, Milavetz served in vice president roles at Steward Health Care. She founded and led Onsite Care, Inc. as its chief executive officer and chief medical officer for more than a decade, while also broadening connections in Utah’s business community. Milavetz also spent over 25 years in medical directorship, consultant roles, and clinical practice.

At Regence, Milavetz will work closely with network providers throughout Utah to improve clinical outcomes and reduce medical costs with a focus on increasing the delivery of high-quality care. She will partner with employers offering Regence health plans to implement preventive medicine programs that improve health and reduce out-of-pocket expenses for employees and their families.

Milavetz received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Additionally, she completed internal medicine residencies at the University of Minnesota and Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard University in Massachusetts.
